Olivia was already married to John Easterling, but she was shocked by the news!
A picture proved that Patrick McDermott was in fact alive. He was lost at sea in 2005 during a fishing trip.
Patrick and Olivia had been together for 9 years. The actress was devastated. For 3 years, she spared no effort to find him.

And nobody really knows what happened…

The Coast Guard did a massive search. In 2008, they reached the conclusion that Olivia’s ex had drowned. Since his body was never found, she hired private investigators. She searched tirelessly for Patrick McDermott.

Even though she married again, she couldn’t put this story to rest…
Right before disappearing, Patrick had filed for bankruptcy and had gotten life insecure in his son’s name.
To many people, he had faked his own death. But Olivia and Patrick’s ex-wife thought that was simply impossible.

Patrick would never leave his son, Chance, behind.

But 12 years after his disappearance, a private investigator claimed to have found Patrick. He was alive, married and living in Mexico. The investigators had pictures. The news quickly spread.

The disappearance of Patrick McDermott is still a mystery.
Despite the shocking information, Olivia moved on with her life and learned an invaluable lesson.

I lived in pain for so long over this, but I have to teach myself to live in the now, which is an important life lesson.”
